Gearóid ÓLaighin

Gearóid ÓLaighin (SM’06) received the Ph.D. degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland, in 2000.

He worked in the semiconductor industry in the USA from 1985 to 1990 with Integrated Device Technology. Prior to his appointment in 2007 as Professor of Electronic Engineering at the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland, he was a Senior Lecturer in Electronic Engineering and Assistant Dean, Research for the College of Informatics and Electronics at the University of Limerick. He was also founding Director of the Biomedical electronics Laboratory at the University of Limerick. He has supervised/co-supervised 12 Ph.D. students and eight research masters students to graduation on a variety of bioelectronics topics. He has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed international biomedical engineering journal papers. He has an h-index of 23 and over 2000 citations. He is a referee for several biomedical engineering journals and a member of the Editorial Board of Medical Engineering & Physics.

Prof. ÓLaighin is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), and Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE). He is a Fulbright Scholar and a member of the Irish Fulbright Alumni Association.
